Myakka River State Park – Sarasota, FL
We ended up flying into Tampa rather than Orlando and decided to stay close by in St. Petersburg for the night before heading out to Orlando. Of course, with my luck, the day we fly into Tampa happened to be one of the coldest days of the year with the high in the low 50’s. With it being so windy, it made for a very a chilly walk on the beach, so we decided to go on a short road trip to Sarasota to pass the time before we checked-in to our hotel.
Not knowing anything about the area, I looked up some places to go in the Sarasota area and came across photos of the Myakka River State Park and was intrigued. An hour later we arrived at the park and found ourselves crossing the canopy walkway and climbing numerous flights of stairs which eventually lead us to the top of the 75ft observation tower. From the top we were able to look over the acres of landscape within the park. It was definitely a sight to see.
There were plenty more places to explore in this state park, but we opted to head back to St. Petersburg after spending time at the canopy walkway area. Definitely a place I would go back to if I ever find myself in Sarasota again.
